New sexual health contracts for the delivery of Emergency Hormonal Contraception, Chlamydia Screening and Condom Distribution for under 25 year olds will soon be introduced for Community Pharmacies by North Yorkshire County Council. As part of the contract, you will need to attend a free training session which will be provided by YorSexualHealth.

Aim:

The four hour session aims to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide clients with emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) using PGDs whilst also supporting the use of chlamydia testing and condom distribution within pharmacies for 13-24 year old clients.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to assess a client’s suitability for EHC and supply the drug safely;
  • Understand the physiological effects of EHC; risks and benefits to clients;
  • Be aware of own professional accountability in relation to use of PGDs, impact on own practice and the team.
  • Gain an understanding of chlamydia and testing.
  • Be able to issue condoms via the condom distribution scheme and understand the requirements of the condom distribution scheme
  • Gain information about services in the local area and referral pathways.
  • Have an awareness of children and young person’s safeguarding and referral pathway.

Target Group:

Pharmacists who are commissioned to provide chlamydia testing, condoms and emergency hormonal contraception via PGD.

Prior to the session the pharmacist must complete:

  • DBS check
  • Self-declaration of competence – this includes the CPPE safeguarding e-learning package and the CPPE emergency contraception e-learning, and understanding of the PGDs.
